FWSA Virtual Conference in Solidarity with academics affected by international mobility restrictions

The FWSA would like to extend its solidarity to feminist academics whose international mobility has been restricted due to recent events in the United States. We are aware that many academics have altered plans to present at international conferences in coming months, either due to the direct impact of travel restrictions or through boycotting events in solidarity. In light of this, the FWSA would like to support those impacted in the feminist academic community by hosting a virtual conference of feminist work.
We are also aware of the limitations physical conferences impose in terms of disability and travel, financial precarity, childcare, and other forms of access. With this in mind, we extend our virtual conference space to any feminist researcher whose mobility is restricted in any way.
We invite feminist scholars who find themselves unable to attend feminist conferences, either in the UK or internationally, to submit work for presentation in the FWSA virtual conference. We invite written and/or video presentations on any feminist themes:
- written pieces in the form of a short blog post (500 words) to a full conference paper (c. 3000 words);
- video presentations of 10-15 minutes in length: participants should supply videos that are 720p (5 Mbps) or 1080p (8 Mbps) or 1280×720 px // 1920×1080 px. Please upload the file to a platform of your choice (e.g. dropbox, googledrive, onedrive) and send us a link for download.
- other presentation formats are also welcome, and we invite scholars to get in touch to discuss this.
- written and video pieces may be submitted either in full, or as an abstract of c.300 words.
The conference will be held 1st – 15th September 2017
